To commemorate my favorite holiday, I decided to take on my own design of slice and bake sugar cookies...in the form of TURKEYS! Since the
Matcha Cookies turned out so well, I thought I could take on a solo project. I wanted the turkey to look like this:
But, for simplicity, I decided to go with this design instead:
The recipe for the dough, adapted from
josephhall, is as follows:
Ingredients:
- 1 egg
- 1 chia egg (1T ground chia, 3T water)
- 1 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 t vanilla
- 4 cups flour
- 1 t baking powder
- Red, Green, Red, Yellow food coloring
Directions:
- Mix together the first 5 ingredients. Mix together the flour and baking powder ingredients. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Refrigerate. Split the dough in half. Use 1 half for the outside of the cookie and the other half for the turkey (body, head, wings).
- Split up the dough in parts for the body/head, red wings and orange wings. I do not know the specific size of each; best way is to eyeball it like I did.
- Color the body/head portion with food coloring. 10 drops red, 10 drops green and 4 drops yellow.
- Color the red wings with ~7 drops red food coloring.
- Color the orange wings with 5 drops red and 5 drops yellow food coloring.
- Refrigerate all.
- Take brown dough and split into body and head. Body will be larger than head. Roll out the length to the width of a piece of wax paper. Refrigerate.
- Split the red dough into 4 equal pieces and the orange dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each of these out to the width of the wax paper and then flatten to make into oblong circles. Refrigerate.
- Attach head to body and wings to body. Refrigerate.
- Roll out the un-colored dough to the width of wax paper and a length that will wrap around the turkey roll. Place turkey roll onto rolled out dough and wrap up. Press the dough around it and refrigerate overnight.
- Slice and bake at 375 degrees F for 10-12 minutes or until slightly brown on the edges.
