My favorite way to look for new recipes is to search other blogs. There is nothing better than not only getting a recipe, but also seeing someone else's attempt at it. I found a delicious looking Grasshopper Cake on dessert girl's blog and had to make it! This is originally from the book Baked: New Frontiers in Baking.
This was my first attempt at a layered cake. I knew from the start that it was not going to turn out pretty. None of my cakes ever come out of the pan and I haven't the first clue as to how to add cake layers, other than flipping them on top of the cake and hoping they land in the right place. Here is a photo tour of my 3 hour adventure last night.
The batter looked amazing; this photo does not do it justice. I only had 2 cake pans, so my third was a pie pan..haha. My butter was frozen, so I melted it next to the burner while making the buttercream. Anything with 4.5 sticks of butter has to taste amazing, right?!

I was lucky enough that the buttercream frosting held everything together. I was worried I would wake up in the morning to this cake toppled over in my fridge! But, luckily, it all held together and the bf and I were both able to bring a slice with us to work this morning.
